Real Transformations, Real Scottish Homes
At West Lothian Feature Walls, we've completed over 200 media wall installations across Scotland. Each one represents a genuine transformation — a living room, bedroom, or entertainment space that has been completely reimagined through the addition of a bespoke media wall.
In this article, we showcase five of our favourite before-and-after transformations, demonstrating the remarkable impact a media wall can have on any space. Browse our full gallery page for more examples.
Transformation 1: The Livingston New-Build
Before
A standard new-build living room in Livingston with a blank, featureless wall. The room was furnished with a freestanding TV on a basic stand, scattered cables, and mismatched furniture. Despite being a modern property, the room felt generic and uninspired.
The Brief
The homeowners wanted to create a stunning focal point that would make their living room feel premium and personalised. They wanted an electric fireplace for ambiance, ample storage for media equipment, and LED lighting for atmosphere.
The Design
We created a full-width media wall in dark charcoal matt laminate with warm oak accent panels. The centrepiece is an Evonic Avanti 150RW fireplace with a flush-mounted 65-inch TV above. Flanking the central section, push-to-open cupboards provide extensive storage, and warm white LED strip lighting beneath the unit creates a floating effect.
After
The transformation was dramatic. The generic new-build living room became a stunning, personalised space with real character. The client described it as "like moving into a completely different house." Read more client testimonials.
Key Takeaway
Even the most unremarkable room can be completely transformed with the right media wall design. New-build homes particularly benefit because they provide a blank canvas for a dramatic intervention.
Transformation 2: The Edinburgh Tenement
Before
A one-bedroom tenement flat in Marchmont, Edinburgh with a traditional chimney breast and alcoves. The chimney breast was unused and the alcoves contained mismatched shelving units. The room felt cluttered and the Victorian architecture wasn't being celebrated.
The Brief
The owner wanted to modernise the living room while respecting the property's character. Storage was a priority in the compact flat, and they wanted to incorporate a small electric fireplace.
The Design
We designed a media wall that worked with the existing chimney breast and alcoves. The chimney breast section houses a recessed 55-inch TV with an Evonic FireFX Atmos 105 fireplace below. The alcoves were fitted with matching cupboards below and open shelving above, providing substantial storage in a cohesive design.
After
The transformation celebrated the Victorian architecture while introducing modern functionality. The owner gained significant storage space, a beautiful fireplace, and a living room that finally felt complete. Estate agent feedback suggested the improvement added significant value to the property.
Key Takeaway
Working with existing architectural features rather than against them often produces the most satisfying results. Read our Edinburgh media walls guide for more about installing in Edinburgh properties.
Transformation 3: The Glasgow Family Home
Before
A large family living room in Newton Mearns, Glasgow, with a freestanding TV, separate electric fire, and various pieces of furniture providing storage. The room was spacious but felt disconnected, with no clear focal point.
The Brief
A family with two young children wanted a media wall that would become the room's focal point while providing practical storage for family life. Safety was paramount, and they wanted to eliminate the freestanding items that made the room feel cluttered. Read our family media wall guide for similar considerations.
The Design
We designed an expansive full-width media wall spanning 3.8 metres. The design features a centrally mounted 75-inch TV with an Evonic Avanti 190RW fireplace — one of our largest installations. Extensive storage includes lower cupboards for children's toys and games, mid-level shelving for display items, and upper storage for items kept out of children's reach.
After
The transformation was extraordinary. The family removed three separate pieces of furniture and gained more storage than before. The room's focal point was clear and impressive, and the children were safe around the cool-to-touch fireplace glass. The family described the media wall as "the best thing we've ever done to our home."
Key Takeaway
For family homes, the practical benefits of a media wall can be as transformative as the aesthetic ones. Consolidating storage and eliminating freestanding furniture creates a safer, more organised living space.
Transformation 4: The Stirling Countryside Home
Before
A living room in a rural property near Stirling with stone walls and traditional features. The room had character but the technology setup — a TV on a wall bracket with visible cables — felt at odds with the property's character.
The Brief
The owners wanted to integrate modern entertainment technology without compromising the traditional character of their home. They preferred natural materials that would complement the existing stone and timber elements.
The Design
We created a media wall using timber-effect panels with a stone-effect accent section around the fireplace area. The Evonic eReflex 150RW was chosen for its exceptional flame realism, which complements the traditional hearth feel. All cables were hidden, and the TV was flush-mounted within the timber panels.
After
The result was a beautiful blend of traditional and contemporary. The media wall looked like it had always been part of the house, its natural materials harmonising with the existing architecture. The homeowners were delighted that modern technology had been integrated so seamlessly.
Key Takeaway
Bespoke media walls aren't just for modern homes. With the right material choices, they can enhance traditional and period properties beautifully. Browse our 20 media wall ideas for more design inspiration.
Transformation 5: The West Lothian Bedroom
Before
A master bedroom in Livingston with a TV mounted on a basic bracket above a chest of drawers. The setup was functional but looked messy, with visible cables and a cluttered surface below the TV.
The Brief
The couple wanted to create a luxury hotel-room feel in their master bedroom. They wanted the TV neatly integrated, a small fireplace for ambiance, and a clean, uncluttered aesthetic.
The Design
We designed a bedroom-specific media wall that spans the bed wall. A 55-inch TV is recessed at the perfect viewing height for watching from bed, with a compact Evonic FireFX Atmos 105 below. Slim bedside cupboards on each side provide storage for books and personal items, replacing the need for separate bedside tables.
After
The bedroom was transformed into a genuinely luxurious space. The couple reported that it felt "like a five-star hotel" and that the fireplace ambiance had become part of their nightly routine. The clean design eliminated all visual clutter, creating a serene, relaxing environment.
Key Takeaway
Media walls aren't limited to living rooms. Bedrooms offer fantastic transformation potential, and the impact on daily quality of life is remarkable. This is one of the biggest trends for 2026.
